Painting my bedroom? Tell me what you think of this idea?
Yo… asked:
Hi everybody.
I’m redoing my bedroom and decided on blue as a color. It’s an ocean/beach/seashell-like theme. My comforter is blue with dolphins on it. A few co-workers suggested that I paint the main wall in my bedroom (the wall behind the head of my bed) a dark blue and the other walls a lighter blue (all from the same trio). I’ve never really heard of that idea before but I think it sounds pretty cool. What do you think?
Bexis, do you think it would look good if I used off-white colored curtains? I found some with seashells on it and I thought it would kind of symbolize sand by being off-white.

hi..why don’t you paint the top in the lighter blues, resembling a sky and about 3 feet from the bottom of the wall apply the darker blue and make this look like the water..rather than doing a straight line, use a marker pen and draw a wavy pattern and it will resemble the sea..i did this once in a child’s bedroom and it looked fab..you can get adhesive stickers these days that you can put on the wall, in the shape of fish, birds etc..
this way you can build up a seaside theme..it looks brilliant..
blue is a funny colour to use, especially if you use a dark blue to paint one whole wall, it tends to make the room oppressive feeling..if you want to do this ,stick with a meduim spectrum blue, do not go to dark..
i used to paint murals for people and it does make a room feel welcoming.. never be afraid to experiment with colour, you can always cover it over.. good luck and most of all have loads of fun doing it..xxx
Accent walls are so NOT out! I love the idea of accent walls…in my current bedroom, the wall behind my head board is a dark green, like a hunter green, the rest of the walls (and the ceiling) are all done in an ivy green. The colors work really well together. As for your blues, I would go for it IF that’s what you’d like to do.
I don’t know that I like it for a sea themed bedroom so much though. I would stick with a light sea green for that and use white as an accent color in the room plus use sea shells for decorative purposes too.
Good luck!
